M.S.Ed Higher Education & Student Affairs

Artifacts
Within this page, I have provided a snapshot of my work and the things I have accomplished in my time at Indiana University in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program
NSO Student Staffing Schedule
This staffing schedule demonstrates my ability to coordinate multiple moving pieces within a program to achieve a shared goal. In developing the schedule, I balanced the needs of programs across different days while also considering student staff availability, individual strengths, and overall program demands. This proved to be quite challenging as communication was not always clear on availability, while also encouraging staff to try out different positions within the program to develop their professional skills. Regardless, by aligning staffing needs with program requirements and student capacity, the schedule supports the successful implementation of orientation while also fostering a collaborative and well-organized team environment.
Emergency Response Training
This emergency response training demonstrates my ability to design and facilitate learning that prepares student staff for real-time decision-making. I intentionally structured the training to include scenario-based discussions so RAs could practice applying protocols in realistic situations. As a result, staff reported increased confidence in responding to emergencies and a clearer understanding of their responsibilities and policies in place.
Student Staff Evaluation
This student staff evaluation reflects my approach to supervision through intentional feedback and goal setting. In one-on-one meetings, I guide RAs in reflecting on their performance, identifying strengths, and setting goals for continued growth. These conversations have helped staff become more self-aware and proactive in their development, strengthening both their performance and confidence in their roles.
RA Letter of Recommendation
This letter demonstrates my ability and commitment to supporting my student staff in pursuing opportunities that promote their success and growth. In this letter, I articulated how successful my student is in their current role and highlighted the abilities that have made them worthy of an award.
Staff Expectations
This document demonstrates my commitment to upholding personal boundaries within my work. While it clearly outlines my expectations related to professionalism, accountability, and respectful engagement it also highlights my boundaries around communication. Through intentionally integrating my personal boundaries into the expectations I set for my team, I create transparency around how I approach supervision while also modeling healthy living/working habits for my students. With this implementation, I have noticed my staff adopting healthier habits around work and making intentional time management changes to support work-life balance.
Scholarship to Practice Paper
This paper demonstrates how the IU HESA coursework and my assistantship have allowed me to apply theories to my practice as a professional. The continuous opportunity to take the knowledge from the coursework and subconsciously apply what is being developed into my assistantship, practicum, and internship practices has prompted my development as a professional. In this paper, starting on page 10 is where the application process unfolds in an articulate manner.
Introduction to Outreach Script
This script demonstrates how I was able to promote the vision of the unit, which is the Higher Education and Student Affairs program, to prospective students. Through this document, I gathered individuals together to help share what IU HESA has to offer and the initiatives and planning that are taking place to recruit the next cohort of master’s students. Prospective master’s students had the opportunity to hear from several leaders within our program, who shared the values that are aligned with the HESA program and how they can contribute and gain from their experience at IU.
Action Plan Items
This document demonstrates my ability to craft outcomes that redirect policy violations to educational lessons that promote understanding of why the policy that is violated exists. Students can create their own action plans but also appreciate knowing options for how to proceed in order to understand how their action impacted others and what they can do to regain trust and learn from the incident. One of my action plans is around identifying unique policies within the Housing Rules and Regulations, and many students have commented on policies that they were unaware of, and intended to share what they learned with their peers.
Outreach Buddy Email Template
This template demonstrates this outcome through the creation of a structured yet flexible framework for peer-to-peer engagement between current and prospective students. As prospective students learn more about the program and accept their position in HESA, they will have developed a relationship with a current student or a past student that will aid in networking efforts while also ensuring seamless integration into cohort opportunities.
Small Staff Agenda
This agenda demonstrates my ability to identify several needs and items that need to be completed within a set amount of time. During small staff meetings, many questions and conversations come up that are a blend of items within the agenda, and it requires structure to find the intersection between the various components. In these meetings, we discuss what is expected of them for the following week and how to improve from the week before, and it leads to multiple objectives in conversations that must be addressed.
